Common Access Card (CAC) Authentication

December 21st, 2015

Challenge

The Common Access Card (CAC) is the standard identification for all Active Duty United States Defense personnel, Selected Reserve and National Guard, Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees, United States Coast Guard (USCG) civilian employees and eligible DoD and USCG contractor personnel.  The CAC card provides access to defense computer networks and systems, and is also the principal card used to enable physical access to buildings and controlled spaces.

Solution

Over the last 15 years, DoD has issued more than 20 million CAC cards.  The infrastructure is controlled and managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).  TechTrend has worked closely with DISA to design, develop, and maintain this CAC authentication infrastructure.

Results

TechTrend was able to provide an improved CAC authentication infrastructure to ensure all Active Duty personnel could successfully log into their defense computer networks and systems while maintaining security.
