clearly it was painted by an artist who knew what they were doing

and seems quite a spirit of independence captured in this watercolor

at odds with the careful linearity of the rest

The Outrage  the film was based on the Japanese stories Rashomon and In A Grove by Ryunosuke Akutagawa (made into the film Rashomon by Kurosawa)-- a recounting of the same story by different people

Elsie Zimmerman's Grackle (I believe!), c. 1930s School Watercolor antique American watercolor set Baby Ruth approx 4" xOne of two watercolor birds by the same young Elsie Zimmerman whose watercolored color chart I've also listed today. I'll never say no a naive bird drawing of this sort no fuss, just good, with a certain elegance and sense of resolve, too. I think this is a Common Grackle based on the combination of blue head, black body and yellow eyes. 11 5 8" x 9 1 8", very good condition, c. 1930s.
