Description
Clearly the pumpkin-red color of the Red Quill above was its most important attribute
The jointed corners are pretty great too
some wear to the wood and paint around the edges and sides
The stain is definitely original to the piece and has aged to yield a really wonderful surface with mustard yellow undertones
it measures 6 3/4" l x 1" wide x 3/8"
Parker and Wood Seeds and Tools Victorian Watermelon Man Trade Card black lock Clearly the pumpkin-red color ofThis is my favorite trade card I've found, c. 1890 or so I believe, and a pretty rare one the only other copy I can find of it out there is held int he Cornell University Library Rare and Manuscript Collection. What a face, and what a watermelon, and how much fun I think it would have been to visit Parker & Wood's Agricultural Warehouse and Seed Store (with celebrated ice tools!) in Boston, located just a few steps from historic Faneuil Hall. 5 1 8" x
